Nearly fifty years ago, the Baie de Somme took a radical turn to protect its natural heritage, allowing it to become today one of the most emblematic sites of the French coast, classified in the very closed club of “most beautiful berries of the world ”.

What is less known is that, at the same time, in an astonishing parallel, a new breed of horses was born in these places, the fruit of the work of passionate women and men, carrying within them a vision of freedom and immersion in nature.

The breed of Henson horses would thus wear the colors of the identity of their native land – the “Henson Land” – and, along with the birds and seals, symbolize the harmony found in these places.

Throughout a cycle of four seasons, this book of photographs taken by Florent Cocquet retraces the daily life of men in contact with these magnificent horses which enchant the Bay and its neighboring shores of Marquenterre.

It is a hymn to the joy of living which, in the face of the excessiveness of the forces of the universe, shows that the perseverance of life on Earth finds its balance in an eternal beginning.
