Set out to discover the three iconic bays of the Picardy and Opal Coasts during this five-day experiential journey in Henson Land!

 

Accompanied by Henson horses, you will set out to discover Picardy’s culture—spanning both its monuments and its cuisine—and traverse the finest landscapes along this stretch of coastline and its magnificent hinterland.

 

Several wellness workshops (yoga, sophrology) will allow you to relax during your stay.

Useful information :

Please bring your own riding gear (boots, helmet, etc.). This trip is designed to be as contemplative as possible, yet it still requires an advanced level of riding proficiency. Overnight stays in guesthouses and hotels are included in the package.

Description

First stage:
Medieval town of Rue – Maintenay: the Ponthieu plateau and the Authie Valley, with their Cistercian farms. Visit to the magnificent Valloires Abbey. The Maintenay mill. Arrival at the gîte.

Second step:
Maintenay–Montreuil-sur-Mer. The climb to Buire-le-Sec, between the Canche and Authie rivers. The Château de Mouflet. The town of Montreuil, viewed from its nine-century-old ramparts. Overnight stay in the Citadel or in Montreuil-sur-Mer (depending on the options chosen).
20 km, or a bit more if taking a detour via Wailly or elsewhere.
Third step:
Montreuil-sur-Mer – Le Touquet-Paris-Plage: The route through the lower Canche valley, following the river’s meanders. The Attin Ferry—a touch of history. Le Valencendre. Étaples on the right bank. The prestigious Le Touquet equestrian center. Overnight stay at the Hipotel or in Le Touquet (depending on the chosen options).

Fourth step:
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, Berck-sur-Mer / Groffliers: The vast sandy beaches and dunes of Stella, Merlimont, and Berck. Visit to the Henson Equestrian Center (La Molière) in Berck and the dunes of the North Authie Bay. Arrival in Groffliers (charming campsite with lodges).

Fifth step:
Groffliers – Saint-Quentin-en-Tourmont. Head straight for the Marquenterre, following the wild, tide-swept banks of the Authie River. But first, a mandatory stop at the old port of La Madelon. Discover the southern Authie Bay—the “little sister” to the Bay of Somme—a secluded spot virtually untouched by urban development. Visit the “L’Etrier Fort-Mahon-Plage” Henson Equestrian Centre. Then, enjoy a magnificent ride along the Marquenterre dunes to reach the Promised Land: the Domaine du Marquenterre and its “Henson Marquenterre Equestrian Area”—the end of the journey…
