🐴 Day 1 – Between Chapels and Marshes
Departure from Rue (Chapel of the Holy Spirit, an extraordinary 15th-century stone lacework) towards Nouvion-en-Ponthieu. Visit the 11th-century chapel of Saint-Corneille du Hamelet, then explore the marshes and meadows of Ponthoile, birthplace of the Caudron brothers, pioneers of aviation. Meet the famous salt-meadow sheep, a gastronomic emblem of the Bay. Overnight stay in the heart of the Ponthieu, with full comfort.
🌳 Day 2 – Crécy Forest and Abbey
Ride through the Crécy state forest, with its remarkable trees and tales of royal hunts. Stop at Forest-l’Abbaye, then reach Saint-Riquier — once nicknamed “Centule with a hundred towers” — a major Carolingian monastic site. Discover its flamboyant Gothic abbey church (15th century). Overnight stay near this exceptional historic heritage.
🏰 Day 3 – Abbeville and the Somme Valley
Explore the collegiate church of Saint-Vulfran — another masterpiece of flamboyant Gothic architecture — and the charming streets of Abbeville, before riding along the Somme Canal. Overnight at the Ferme des Bouchers in Saigneville, a characterful guesthouse.
🌊 Day 4 – Return through the Bay
Cross the lower Somme Valley and the salt marshes of Noyelles. Experience unforgettable gallops on the beaches of Le Crotoy, facing the dunes of the Marquenterre. Evocation of the Caudron brothers and their first aircraft, before crossing the ford of the Maye to reach the Marquenterre Estate — the promised land of the Henson horses.
